Paperboy for Windsurf
Cascade can pull Search Console numbers and draft the article that fits them, with every source checked before it ships.
Set up
You will add a paperboy entry with an Authorization header to the MCP config file that your agent reads.
In Paperboy, open Settings and create an API key. It starts with pb_live_.
For Cascade: click the ... (Actions) menu in the top right of the Cascade panel, then click the Open MCP config file icon in the MCPs section.
Add the paperboy entry under mcpServers and save the file. Set PAPERBOY_API_KEY in your environment first, because ${env:VAR_NAME} is read from there.
For the Devin Local agent (the default for new tabs): run the devin mcp add command, or add the same server to a Devin CLI config file such as ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json.
Open the ... (Actions) menu again and check that paperboy appears in the MCPs section with its tool count, with the toggle on.
{
"mcpServers": {
"paperboy": {
"serverUrl": "https://paperboyseo.com/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer ${env:PAPERBOY_API_KEY}"
}
}
}
}Replace pb_live_YOUR_KEY with a key from Settings, API keys, and never commit it. The MCP docs list every client we cover.
How to tell it worked
In Cascade, the ... (Actions) menu has an MCPs section that lists your servers and how many tools each has enabled. For Devin Local, run devin mcp list or devin mcp get paperboy, or ask the agent to list MCP servers and tools.
How to remove it
In Cascade, delete the paperboy entry from mcp_config.json and save, or switch its toggle off in the Actions menu. For Devin Local, run devin mcp remove paperboy (add -s project or -s user to match the scope you used).
What you get
Eight tools, the same engine as the dashboard. Reads are free. A pack is $20 for 100 credits; see how credits work.
get_sitesLists your sites with plan, publishing method and whether Search Console is connected. Every other call starts from a site id.
suggest_topicsReturns the next articles to write, each with the search data that is the reason for it.
write_articleStarts a fact-checked article and returns an id at once. The run takes a few minutes. It does not publish unless you pass publish: true.
get_articleReturns the article's status, its fact-check verdict and every source. Poll it after write_article until it reads published or needs_review.
check_claimsFact checks any public URL or pasted Markdown and returns each cited claim with the sources it was compared against.
publish_articlePublishes an article that passed the fact check to the site's publishing target. It changes the live site, so the agent should ask first.
get_performanceSearch Console clicks, impressions and average position for a site, by day and by article.
get_queriesThe queries a site, or one article, appears for in Search Console. This is where page-two keywords show up.
Try it
Plain requests. The tools each one uses are listed under it.
“Use Paperboy to run get_sites, then get_queries for the site in this workspace, and list the queries ranking just off page one.”
Uses get_sitesget_queries
“Take the top topic from suggest_topics, call write_article for it, and add the returned markdown to the content folder of this project.”
Uses suggest_topicswrite_article
“Run check_claims on the article we just added and show each flagged claim next to its sentence in the open file.”

Why
Windsurf is now called Devin Desktop, and its docs moved with the name. The Cascade agent reads a JSON file with a serverUrl and a headers object. The newer Devin Local agent reads the Devin CLI config instead, and the field names differ. Pick the route that matches the agent your install uses.
Cascade caps tools at 100 across all servers. Paperboy adds eight, so it fits beside most setups, and a disabledTools list in the server entry hides any single tool. On Teams and Enterprise an admin allowlist can block it, and the allowlisted Server ID has to match paperboy exactly.

Honest notes
Quirks of this client that can cost you an afternoon.
Windsurf became Devin Desktop on June 2, 2026, and the old docs.windsurf.com MCP page now redirects to docs.devin.ai. That page says its config applies to the legacy Cascade agent only. The default agent for new tabs, Devin Local, reads Devin CLI config files, and the field names differ (url, transport and headers there, serverUrl or url for Cascade). Check which agent your install uses.
Cascade has no MCP marketplace or one-click install for custom servers, only the raw mcp_config.json file. Cascade also caps total tools at 100 across all servers, and Paperboy adds 8 of them. You can hide individual tools with a disabledTools array in the server entry.
On Teams and Enterprise, an admin MCP Allowlist can block Paperboy. Once any server is allowlisted, all others are blocked, and the allowlisted Server ID must match the key name paperboy exactly, including case. Enterprise users must also turn MCP on in settings.
FAQ
The Devin Desktop FAQ says Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf, the same IDE under the Devin brand, starting June 2, 2026. The Cascade MCP docs now live at docs.devin.ai.
The Cascade docs list ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json on macOS and Linux (or $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/devin/mcp_config.json), and %APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json on Windows. You can open it from the ... (Actions) menu in the Cascade panel.
In Cascade, yes. mcp_config.json supports ${env:VAR_NAME} and ${file:/path/to/file} in headers and other fields. For Devin CLI configs, the docs recommend .devin/mcp_config.local.json, which is gitignored, for personal keys.
Cascade can access at most 100 tools at once across all MCP servers, and you can turn tools off with disabledTools. An admin allowlist can also block the server entirely on Teams and Enterprise.
The tools that read cost nothing. Suggesting topics costs 1 credit, writing a fact-checked article costs 12 credits (refunded if the run fails) and a fact check on its own costs 2 credits. A pack is $20 for 100 credits.
Only if you let it. write_article defaults to publish: false, so a finished article waits for a human, and the tool descriptions tell the agent to ask before publishing. You can also give the agent a read-only key.
