Paperboy for Relevance AI
Connect Paperboy to a Relevance AI agent as a custom MCP server, with approval required on the two calls that spend credits or publish.
Set up
You will connect Paperboy to an Agent as a custom MCP server, and use a Custom API Key with the API Tool step if the form cannot send a bearer token.
Agents can connect to any remote MCP server that supports Streamable HTTP through Tools > Add MCP > Connect my own. The docs say to enter any required authentication details but do not list which credential types the form accepts, so a bearer token is unconfirmed. The REST route through the API Tool step with a Custom API Key is fully documented.
Open the Agent you want to connect and go to the Tools tab in the Agent builder.
Click Add MCP, then click Connect my own.
Enter the server URL https://paperboyseo.com/mcp and a connection label such as paperboy.
Enter the authentication details with pb_live_YOUR_KEY, as a bearer token if the form offers that option.
Check that the Paperboy tools now appear in the Agent's Tools tab, then mention them in the Agent's core instructions.
If the form has no way to send a bearer token, add the key under Integrations & API Keys > Custom API Keys and call the REST API with the API Tool step instead.
Server URL: https://paperboyseo.com/mcp
Connection label: paperboy
Authentication details: pb_live_YOUR_KEY (as a bearer token, if the form offers it)Replace pb_live_YOUR_KEY with a key from Settings, API keys, and never commit it. The MCP docs list every client we cover.
How to tell it worked
After connecting, the Agent automatically fetches and displays the available tools from the server. Confirm the Paperboy tools are listed in the Agent's Tools tab, with (MCP: paperboy) in their descriptions.
What you get
Eight tools, the same engine as the dashboard. Reads are free. A pack is $20 for 100 credits; see how credits work.
get_sitesLists your sites with plan, publishing method and whether Search Console is connected. Every other call starts from a site id.
suggest_topicsReturns the next articles to write, each with the search data that is the reason for it.
write_articleStarts a fact-checked article and returns an id at once. The run takes a few minutes. It does not publish unless you pass publish: true.
get_articleReturns the article's status, its fact-check verdict and every source. Poll it after write_article until it reads published or needs_review.
check_claimsFact checks any public URL or pasted Markdown and returns each cited claim with the sources it was compared against.
publish_articlePublishes an article that passed the fact check to the site's publishing target. It changes the live site, so the agent should ask first.
get_performanceSearch Console clicks, impressions and average position for a site, by day and by article.
get_queriesThe queries a site, or one article, appears for in Search Console. This is where page-two keywords show up.

Why
Relevance AI connects to remote Streamable HTTP servers through Add MCP, Connect my own. Its docs tell you to enter any required authentication details but do not list the credential types, so a bearer token is unconfirmed. The REST route with a Custom API Key and the API step is fully documented.
Approval is set per tool: Auto Run, Approval Required or Let Agent Decide. Put Approval Required on write_article and publish_article. You can also connect the same Paperboy URL more than once with different labels and keys, one for each client site.

Honest notes
Quirks of this client that can cost you an afternoon.
The external server must support the Streamable HTTP transport and be reachable on a public URL. Local MCP servers and JSON configuration are not supported in Relevance AI.
The connection label appears in tool descriptions as (MCP: connection-name). You can connect the same Paperboy URL more than once with different labels and keys, for example one per client site, and say in the Agent's core instructions which connection to use.
Relevance AI lets you set approval per tool: Auto Run, Approval Required or Let Agent Decide. Set Approval Required on write_article and publish_article so the Agent asks before it spends credits or publishes.
FAQ
Yes. Agents can connect to any remote MCP server that supports Streamable HTTP. In the Agent builder, open the Tools tab, click Add MCP, then Connect my own.
No. Local MCP servers and JSON configuration are not available in Relevance AI. Paperboy is a remote server, so you add its URL in the Connect my own form instead.
Use the REST API. Save the key under Integrations & API Keys > Custom API Keys, then call https://paperboyseo.com/api/v1 from the API Tool step with an Authorization header that uses the secret variable.
Yes. In the Agent's settings open Triggers, choose Webhook Trigger, and copy the webhook URL for Paperboy to call. In the message template, {{$}} passes the entire payload to the Agent.
The tools that read cost nothing. Suggesting topics costs 1 credit, writing a fact-checked article costs 12 credits (refunded if the run fails) and a fact check on its own costs 2 credits. A pack is $20 for 100 credits.
Only if you let it. write_article defaults to publish: false, so a finished article waits for a human, and the tool descriptions tell the agent to ask before publishing. You can also give the agent a read-only key.
