Paperboy for Lovable
Connect Paperboy to Lovable's chat while you build, or call its REST API from your published app.
Set up
You will add Paperboy as a custom MCP server on Lovable's Connectors page so the project chat can use its tools while you build.
Lovable accepts custom remote MCP servers on all plans, with OAuth, a bearer token or API key, or no authentication. They work only as personal chat connectors in the project chat and in Chats, never inside your published app, and the docs do not name the transport. To call Paperboy from the app itself, use the REST API from server-side code with a project secret.
Open Connectors (lovable.dev/dashboard?connectors).
Select Add custom in the top right of the catalog, then choose MCP server.
Enter a Server name, keep Direct connection, and enter https://paperboyseo.com/mcp as the Server URL.
Under authentication, choose Bearer token or API key instead of the OAuth default, and paste your Paperboy key.
Click Add server.
Ask Lovable a question only the server can answer, as in the verify step.
Server name: paperboy
Connection: Direct connection
Server URL: https://paperboyseo.com/mcp
Authentication: Bearer token or API key
Token or key: pb_live_YOUR_KEYReplace pb_live_YOUR_KEY with a key from Settings, API keys, and never commit it. The MCP docs list every client we cover.
How to tell it worked
Ask Lovable something the server can answer, for example: Using the Paperboy connector, list my sites. The docs suggest this kind of prompt to confirm the connection works.
How to remove it
Chat connections are personal, and the docs say you can review or revoke your own connections anytime in Connectors.
What you get
Eight tools, the same engine as the dashboard. Reads are free. A pack is $20 for 100 credits; see how credits work.
get_sitesLists your sites with plan, publishing method and whether Search Console is connected. Every other call starts from a site id.
suggest_topicsReturns the next articles to write, each with the search data that is the reason for it.
write_articleStarts a fact-checked article and returns an id at once. The run takes a few minutes. It does not publish unless you pass publish: true.
get_articleReturns the article's status, its fact-check verdict and every source. Poll it after write_article until it reads published or needs_review.
check_claimsFact checks any public URL or pasted Markdown and returns each cited claim with the sources it was compared against.
publish_articlePublishes an article that passed the fact check to the site's publishing target. It changes the live site, so the agent should ask first.
get_performanceSearch Console clicks, impressions and average position for a site, by day and by article.
get_queriesThe queries a site, or one article, appears for in Search Console. This is where page-two keywords show up.

Why
Lovable accepts custom MCP servers on all plans, but only as personal chat connectors. They help while you build and never run inside your published app. A blog that needs Paperboy at runtime has to call the REST API from server-side code with a project secret.
Lovable shows an approval card before any tool the server does not mark read-only, with Always allow options on it. A workspace admin can switch custom MCP servers off, so if the option is missing, ask whoever runs the workspace.

Honest notes
Quirks of this client that can cost you an afternoon.
Chat only. A chat connector gives Lovable context in the project chat and in Chats, and it is never part of your published app. If the published app must call Paperboy, ask Lovable to integrate the REST API directly and store the key as a project secret.
Per user and admin controlled. Each person connects with their own key, and a workspace admin can turn custom MCP servers off with the Custom MCP setting. If MCP server is greyed out under Add custom, an admin has disabled it.
Approvals. Tools the server marks as read-only run without asking. Before any other tool runs, Lovable shows an approval card with Always allow and Always allow all tools from this connection, so expect a card before write_article or publish_article.
FAQ
Yes. Lovable supports custom MCP servers on all plans, and the authentication choices are OAuth (default), Bearer token or API key, and No authentication.
No. The docs say chat connections only give Lovable context in the project chat and Chats. For the app itself, ask Lovable to integrate the API directly. It writes a server function in newer TanStack Start apps or an Edge Function in older React + Vite apps.
Enter it in the Add secret form when Lovable asks, or manage it under More → Settings → Secrets. Secrets are write-only after saving, so replace the value if you lose the key.
The docs say a workspace admin has disabled custom MCP servers for your workspace. An admin can change it with the Custom MCP row in Connectors → Admin settings → Chat connectors.
The tools that read cost nothing. Suggesting topics costs 1 credit, writing a fact-checked article costs 12 credits (refunded if the run fails) and a fact check on its own costs 2 credits. A pack is $20 for 100 credits.
Only if you let it. write_article defaults to publish: false, so a finished article waits for a human, and the tool descriptions tell the agent to ask before publishing. You can also give the agent a read-only key.
