The honest verdict

When should I pick Byword, and when Paperboy?

Sometimes the other tool is the better fit. Here is how to tell.

Pick Byword if

  • Pick Byword if you need hundreds or thousands of articles or programmatic pages and want to pay per article.
  • Pick Byword if you want to choose the model per batch and match the voice of your existing content.
  • Pick Byword if you publish to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Ghost, HubSpot or Notion and want a plain article-credit plan.

What Byword does well, from its own pages

  • Bulk and programmatic generation: llms.txt cites batches of 1,000+ articles and template pages built from CSV, API or manual data. (source)
  • Pick the model per article or batch (GPT-5.4, Claude Opus 4.6, Gemini 3.1 Pro) and match your voice from existing content. (source)
  • Per-article pricing that gets cheaper at volume, unused credits that never expire, and an Unlimited plan with your own API keys. (source)

Pick Paperboy if

  • You want every cited number checked against its source before anything publishes.
  • You want topics chosen from your own Search Console impressions, not a keyword list.
  • You want the engine open source, or you want an agent to run it.

About Byword

What is Byword, and how much does it cost?

Byword is an AI article writer for SEO that researches keywords, writes in your voice, and publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Ghost, HubSpot and Notion. (its own description, read Oct 29, 2026)

The pricing page is a JavaScript app and returned only its title to WebFetch. Plan prices and article counts were verified from the page's own meta description and noscript text, and extra-article prices, seats and annual discount from byword.ai/llms.txt (vendor-owned). The billing interval for the monthly prices is not shown on the pricing page. Byword's llms.txt says it does not optimize existing articles and has no image generation or chatbot.
