What is Amazonbot, and how do I block it?

Amazonbot is Amazon's crawler used for AI training and other purposes. Two lines in robots.txt block it, and Amazon says it follows them. Checked October 29, 2026.

How do I block Amazonbot in robots.txt?

Add this group to the robots.txt file at the root of your site. It asks Amazonbot to stay out of every page.

Block Amazonbot
User-agent: Amazonbot
Disallow: /

To allow it explicitly, for example while a broader rule blocks other bots:

Allow Amazonbot
User-agent: Amazonbot
Allow: /

How do I opt out of Amazon training but stay in its search?

Each Amazon user agent has its own token, so you can set them one by one. This file blocks Amazonbot and allows Amzn-SearchBot, Amzn-User. Every line comes from the rows in this dataset. Whether allowing a bot keeps you in a product is Amazon's call, so check each crawler's page. Amazon says Amzn-User may not follow robots.txt.

Amazon: block training, allow search and user fetch
User-agent: Amazonbot
Disallow: /

User-agent: Amzn-SearchBot
Allow: /

User-agent: Amzn-User
Allow: /

Does blocking Amazonbot affect AI answers?

Amazon does not say what blocking Amazonbot changes. That is not stated.

Each other Amazon user agent has its own robots.txt token, so a rule for Amazonbot does not cover them. See the related crawlers below.

Does Amazonbot follow robots.txt?

Yes. Amazon: its user agents follow the Robots Exclusion Protocol, honoring user-agent and allow/disallow directives. Crawl-delay not supported.

Robots.txt is a request, not a lock (RFC 9309).

What IP addresses does Amazonbot use?

Amazon publishes a list at https://developer.amazon.com/amazonbot/ip-addresses/. We did not download or parse it. A request that claims to be Amazonbot but comes from outside that list is not Amazonbot.
